A Tree Will Grow Beyond A Box That Cages It

(y’alls shit is on fire and I’m dancing in it)

Featuring artists Alaya Shah, Olivia Pietrzak, and Ian Kai/Porterfield

We seek to challenge the very foundations of the gender binary;

We reject conforming to arbitrary standards and categorizing our identities;

Consider the body not as a discourse, but as a sensory experience that transcends language and definitions.

Language is a tool that we must deploy against itself. The words that hold power to limit also allow us to define ourselves, deconstructing its grasp.

The symbols and images surrounding us don’t always serve to represent our personhood. Which images stick with us? Which goes ignored? Which requires a justification?

We celebrate the transformative power of self-expression;

We recognize that this power belongs to everyone.
